Having acquired the land in 1884, the present lounge bistro was opened in 1895 by William Paterson, a spirit merchant originally from Dunfermline.
The Uphall Company of the 1st Battalion Linlithgowshire Volunteers was formed at Uphall on 18th March 1872. William Paterson was a member of the local Volunteers.

In 1908 the Territorial Army replaced The Volunteer Force – and in that same year William Paterson re-named his pub The Volunteer Arms.

We recently renovated our beloved Volunteer along with a new management team to cater both Lounge and Bistro facilities.

We have teamed up with local suppliers to source only the highest quality produce, including our meat and fish supplier at Castle Game, Linlithgow.

The relaxed atmosphere of our lounge bistro offers a place for you, your friends and family to eat, drink, and socialise, the perfect place for a morning coffee, a relaxed lunch or a late evening cocktail.

Our location is the perfect space for your next event or special occasion, small or large. We work with a local events company to put the finishing touch to your function.

Please get in touch via or website or call us direct.
